This past weekend we had a visitor come to stay with us. She’s a little Yorkshire Terrier named Gracie who is a bundle of energy. She stayed with us once before, but during this visit she really seemed to feel more at home. Though still a bit wary of Shakti’s large paws, she proved herself fearless by running in front of Shakti and barking to try and get the Dane to chase her. When she succeeded, she bounded to the couch, jumped up on it, and headed straight up the pillows or armrest so she could meet Shakti nose to nose. A few quick licks to the big black nose, and she was on the move again.

Shakti and Gracie make friends.

Shakti and Gracie make friends.

Shakti seemed to enjoy her company, though after playing for a little while, she would head for her bed back in the bedroom for a nap. When she slept on her bed in the living room, Gracie would sneak up cautiously to sniff her nose, then one of her legs, then her back, etc. There was just so much dog to sniff. While Gracie seemed to like Shakti, she never curled up next to her (perhaps afraid Shakti wouldn’t be careful not to roll over on her?). Instead, she would curl up on Puck or me for a nap, and she was undisturbed by any “sofa quakes” that temporarily shook up her world.

Gracie was a darling to have at the house, and she made me laugh again and again at her playful antics and adorable looks. I’m glad Shakti has a little friend to come and visit every once in awhile.

  1. Very cute picture of Shakti and Gracie and so much fun when ‘friends’ get together! Mom

  2. That’s just really lovely that Shakti has an occasional playdate. :-)

  3. I ain’t got no website. But I love the photo of Gracie and Shakti and your story of the two of them together.
It’s true. Gracie’s an adventurer and loves to make friends. But she also has a great sense of safety, being such a tiny thing.
And she does love to sleep on top of her humans. Glad you and Puck don’t mind having her little warm body on top of yours. She doesn’t snore or anything!
    Love, Linda

  4. I am lonely sitting here in the office and reading your blog. I do feel you close since both of you do such a terrific job of writing. I could picture Puck on Sunday getting near the boys and of course you were right there Mary. I have not been reading your blog lately so will spend time reading, reading, reading.

I talked to Dan one night while Myrtle was out shopping at Super WalMart’s and confessed that being alone was difficult and I really had to work not being lonely. He invited me to ride to CA with Myrtle and help with the boys. Don’t know whether you would want an extra person there while Myrtle is with you.

I am going to W’ford next week and will have the July ladies birthday luncheon. I started this a few years ago and it has been great fun to continue it. Last year we had two ladies over 90 there and Jeanine Berrong was the youngest which was about 54 or so. We do have some younger people but they don’t always come.

Time for me to have a little glass of wine (healthy) and watch a little tv.

I also had gestational diabetes when I carried Betsy but was able to handle it. Of course, I was only carrying one baby.
