{"id":284,"date":"2009-05-21T07:18:38","date_gmt":"2009-05-21T06:18:38","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.puckandmary.com\/blog_puck\/?p=284"},"modified":"2009-05-21T07:18:38","modified_gmt":"2009-05-21T06:18:38","slug":"beware-the-ix-register-my-son","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.puckandmary.com\/blog_puck\/2009\/05\/beware-the-ix-register-my-son\/","title":{"rendered":"Beware the IX Register, my Son!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>(5\/21\/2009)<\/em><\/p>\n<p>With my apologies to Lewis Carroll and dedicated to programmers everywhere:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Twas pasty, and florescent light<br \/>\nDid shine and flicker in the cube;<br \/>\nAll buggy was the code that night,<br \/>\nAnd gremlins were being rude.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Beware the IX register, my son!<br \/>\nThe costate bytes, the bits that latch!<br \/>\nBeware the far pointer pointer bug, and shun<br \/>\nThe unbalanced stack!<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">He took his laser mouse in hand:<br \/>\nLong time the logic error he sought &#8212;<br \/>\nSo he rested by the coffee machine,<br \/>\nAnd sucked caffeine in thought.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">And, as in java-haze he stood,<br \/>\nThe compiler went down in flames,<br \/>\nCame error messages that were no good,<br \/>\nAnd he cursed some names!<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">One, two!\u00a0 One, two! and pointers too<br \/>\nThe mouse went clicky-click!<br \/>\nHe found the bugs and recompiled<br \/>\nAnd that had done the trick.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">And has he slain the pointer bug?<br \/>\nWe pump our fists into the air!<br \/>\nThen another bug drops into the inbox,<br \/>\nAnd he pulled out his hair.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Twas pasty, and florescent light<br \/>\nDid shine and flicker in the cube;<br \/>\nAll buggy was the code that night,<br \/>\nAnd gremlins were being rude.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">~ Puck Curtis<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">August 10, 2007<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\u00a0<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>(5\/21\/2009) With my apologies to Lewis Carroll and dedicated to programmers everywhere: Twas pasty, and florescent light Did shine and flicker in the cube; All buggy was the code that night, And gremlins were being rude.
