{"id":896,"date":"2010-02-16T09:51:51","date_gmt":"2010-02-16T17:51:51","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.puckandmary.com\/blog_mary\/?p=896"},"modified":"2010-02-19T10:56:41","modified_gmt":"2010-02-19T18:56:41","slug":"darwin-was-right","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.puckandmary.com\/blog_mary\/2010\/02\/darwin-was-right\/","title":{"rendered":"Darwin was right&#8230;"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>Guest Post from Puck:<\/h2>\n<p>This week we hit week number 11 which puts us very close to finishing our 12 week sprint.<\/p>\n<h1>Wifewatch 2010<\/h1>\n<h3>Food<\/h3>\n<div id=\"attachment_897\" style=\"width: 211px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.puckandmary.com\/blog_mary\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/02\/sabre_tooth.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-897\" class=\"size-full wp-image-897 \" style=\"border: 5px solid black;\" title=\"sabre_tooth\" src=\"http:\/\/www.puckandmary.com\/blog_mary\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/02\/sabre_tooth.jpg\" alt=\"Why does this saber tooth tiger look so sad?\" width=\"201\" height=\"232\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-897\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Why does this saber tooth tiger look so sad?<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Mary&#8217;s hunger pangs have calmed down and we&#8217;ve moved from large feast-meals into a sort of mellow all day grazing. \u00a0Lately she has been into oatmeal and cereal. \u00a0(I got her started on Total which is heavily fortified.) \u00a0She also got a good protein hit with a healthy meal of steak and eggs this weekend as well.<\/p>\n<p>We did encounter a queasiness patch yesterday but I suspect this is more of an increased blood flow issue. \u00a0Because Mary&#8217;s total blood volume has increased and a good bit of that is spent running errands for the twins, when she stands up too quickly she can get dizzy which is what happened last night. \u00a0It wasn&#8217;t feinting or anything but a gross feeling and this symptom is entirely predictable based on what we are reading.<\/p>\n<p>I got her a cold washcloth for her forehead and then read her the riot-act about standing up too quickly. \u00a0(The last thing we need is her to bonk her head feinting\u00a0because\u00a0she stood up too fast.) \u00a0According to one of the twin books we are reading, the late night trips to pee are particularly troublesome because a pregnant mom tends to be too sleepy to remember she should stand up slowly.<\/p>\n<p>Like anything else, knowing what is going on and having a plan in place should help. \u00a0Afterwards we took a slow walk with the dog and the cool air cleared her head pretty well. \u00a0The next morning, she was very good about getting out of bed slowly. \u00a0(Of course, I also fuss at her about it which she tolerates with great\u00a0magnanimity and dignity.)<\/p>\n<h3>Mood<\/h3>\n<p>She&#8217;s still pretty jumpy and her startle reflex is easily triggered. \u00a0Even sudden motion that she&#8217;s entirely aware of can get the surprise reaction. \u00a0I have to suspect that this and her super sense of smell provide her with an evolutionary advantage of some kind.<\/p>\n<p>Here&#8217;s one scenario I can imagine:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><em>A pregnant-lady at the dawn of time is happily skipping through a field of wildflowers when a\u00a0saber-tooth\u00a0tiger begins to stalk her as prey. \u00a0Immediately the pregnant lady can smell the tiger and she prepares a defensive strategy.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><em>When the saber-tooth jumps out from hiding the pregnant lady shrieks and then violently vomits into the tiger&#8217;s face. \u00a0Highly offended and covered with up-chuck, the tiger decides that there are easier and less messy ways to get a meal.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><em>The pregnant lady resumes skipping.<\/em><\/p>\n<h3>Sleep<\/h3>\n<p>Mary has started sleeping on her left side and experimenting with a multi-pillow sleeping solution. \u00a0Sleeping on the left side increases blood flow for the twins and as she gets bigger, sleeping on her back isn&#8217;t a good plan because it puts pressure on all sorts of things in unhappy ways. \u00a0With that in mind she&#8217;s doing a bit of early training to get ready. \u00a0Right now she is up to 5 pillows.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>1-2 under her head<\/li>\n<li>1 behind her back<\/li>\n<li>1 between her legs<\/li>\n<li>1 held between her arms<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Think of it like the Winter Olympics except that instead of sports it involves pregnant women sleeping. \u00a0 So far, that&#8217;s working pretty well.<\/p>\n<h1>Babies Countdown &#8211; The Double Header<\/h1>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Thursday, February 18<\/strong>, is Twin Week number 11 and also the day of Mary&#8217;s appointment for blood tests.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Thursday, February 25<\/strong> and our 5 week sprint ends which gets us to 12 weeks.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Friday, February 26<\/strong> Mary will have an appointment with Dr. Hershey the Baby-Ninja.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Wednesday, March 3<\/strong> is Mary\u2019s Birthday which gets us to the second trimester. \u00a0At this point, we unlock the veil of secrecy and get to tell everyone. \u00a0(Unless her tummy outs her earlier than that.)<\/li>\n<li><strong>Thursday, May 7<\/strong> and the twins become viable as early as 22 weeks.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Thursday, May 20<\/strong> and 90% of twins born at 24 weeks survive and that number only gets better from here on out.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Thursday, August 12<\/strong> and we hit our goal of 36 weeks minimum. \u00a0From here on the twins could come at any time.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Guest Post from Puck: This week we hit week number 11 which puts us very close to finishing our 12 week sprint.
