{"id":2311,"date":"2010-10-01T17:47:59","date_gmt":"2010-10-02T01:47:59","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.puckandmary.com\/blog_mary\/?p=2311"},"modified":"2010-10-01T18:04:09","modified_gmt":"2010-10-02T02:04:09","slug":"2-months-old","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.puckandmary.com\/blog_mary\/2010\/10\/2-months-old\/","title":{"rendered":"2 Months Old"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>From the Twin-Daddy:<\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>Today is Dominic&#8217;s and Alexander&#8217;s 2-month birthday!!<\/strong><\/p>\n<h3>Geek Learning<\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: left; \">Our boys are learning at an incredible rate, and I compare what they are doing to the scientific method in some sense. \u00a0Which is:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left; \">\n<ul>\n<li>Use your experience<\/li>\n<li>Form a conjecture<\/li>\n<li>Predict the outcome based on your conjecture<\/li>\n<li>Test by experiment<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Our boys have no experience, no conjectures, and no predictions. \u00a0They live in a heightened form of the scientific method in which they experiment randomly and use the results to form a model about how the universe works. \u00a0For example, Alexander doesn&#8217;t know whether or not his brother is made of chocolate ice cream so it might be okay to taste his head.<\/p>\n<p><center><div id=\"attachment_2318\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.puckandmary.com\/blog_mary\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/20_dom_green_alex.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2318\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-2318\" style=\"border: 2px solid black;\" title=\"20_dom_green_alex\" src=\"http:\/\/www.puckandmary.com\/blog_mary\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/20_dom_green_alex-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.puckandmary.com\/blog_mary\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/20_dom_green_alex-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.puckandmary.com\/blog_mary\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/20_dom_green_alex.jpg 864w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-2318\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Is Dom edible? We must experiment on the dog!<\/p><\/div><\/center><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\n<h3>Growing<\/h3>\n<p>Our little guys were born almost 6 weeks early and were massive for their gestational age. \u00a0One of the NICU nurses used the term &#8220;enormous&#8221;. \u00a0\u00a0The good news is that they appear to be growing at a pretty good clip and may overtake or even pass the median growth for a full-term baby very soon. Today Dominic weighed in at 10 pounds 14 ounces and Alexander at 11 pounds 6 ounces. Since their last appointment on September 3rd, they&#8217;ve gained roughly 1.75 ounces a day.<br \/>\n<center><\/p>\n<div><a href=\"http:\/\/www.puckandmary.com\/blog_mary\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/weight_gain_2010_10_01.bmp\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-2312 aligncenter\" style=\"border: 2px solid black;\" title=\"weight_gain_2010_10_01\" src=\"http:\/\/www.puckandmary.com\/blog_mary\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/weight_gain_2010_10_01.bmp\" alt=\"Weight Gain of the Curtis Twins\" width=\"481\" height=\"310\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<p><\/center><\/p>\n<div>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: left; \"><strong><span style=\"color: #3366ff;\">Dominic&#8217;s Weight over time<\/span><\/strong><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: left; \"><strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Alexander&#8217;s Weight over time<\/span><\/strong><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: left; \"><strong><span style=\"color: #99cc00;\">Average baby weight (at gestational age)<\/span><\/strong><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: left; \"><strong><span style=\"color: #666699;\">Average baby weight (after birth)<\/span><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<h3>Being Born Is Tough<\/h3>\n<div>The first thing you will probably notice is the big hiccup in weight gain after the boys were born. \u00a0For any geek worth his bytes you can view this data as evidence that birth is a pretty tough and traumatic experience. \u00a0Most babies lose about 5-10% of their total weight the week after birth, and our boys lost weight too. \u00a0They were used to constantly having nourishment, constantly being held, and constantly hearing their mother&#8217;s voice and heartbeat. \u00a0That all changes in a pretty painful way, and it is no wonder that lying on the chest of a parent (or grandparent) is their favorite place to sleep.<\/div>\n<p><center><\/p>\n<div><a href=\"http:\/\/www.puckandmary.com\/blog_mary\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/28_dom_dad_alex.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-2322 aligncenter\" style=\"border: 2px solid black;\" title=\"28_dom_dad_alex\" src=\"http:\/\/www.puckandmary.com\/blog_mary\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/28_dom_dad_alex-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.puckandmary.com\/blog_mary\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/28_dom_dad_alex-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.puckandmary.com\/blog_mary\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/28_dom_dad_alex.jpg 864w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<p><\/center><\/p>\n<h3>Our Boyos Are Big for Preemies<\/h3>\n<div>As you can see, for preemies almost 6 weeks early our boys are rocking and rolling. \u00a0They never dropped below the green line and when compared to a full term baby (the purple line), they compare pretty well and are heading towards the average weight at a pretty good clip.<\/div>\n<h3>Other Milestones<\/h3>\n<p>We&#8217;re also seeing developmental milestones such as increased strength, control over the head and neck, eye contact, social smiling, and limited arm control.<\/p>\n<p>Today they got their vaccinations at the doctor&#8217;s office, and we started by stripping them and playing with them until we got their weights. \u00a0After that it was examinations and bottles to reward the boys for being mostly patient as patients.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Then came the <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">vaccinations.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Dominic got his shots first with two nurses popping syringes into each leg and then covering the injection sites with band-aids. \u00a0We tried to distract him with his bottle, but when he was stuck he turned beet red and let out a heartbreaking wail. \u00a0His brother was nearby and for the first time ever Alexander actually gave Dom a bit of a sympathy cry as if to say, &#8220;<em>I don&#8217;t like it when you hurt my brother<\/em>!&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>I soothed Dominic, and Mary took Alexander to get his shots next. \u00a0Both boys agreed that this was a horrible experience, but getting milk and being held made it easier to get over it.<\/p>\n<p>The most adorable milestone however is that the boys like it when you play with them now.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>From the Twin-Daddy: Today is Dominic&#8217;s and Alexander&#8217;s 2-month birthday!!
