{"id":1874,"date":"2010-07-06T11:27:59","date_gmt":"2010-07-06T19:27:59","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.puckandmary.com\/blog_mary\/?p=1874"},"modified":"2010-07-06T13:23:37","modified_gmt":"2010-07-06T21:23:37","slug":"poker-face","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.puckandmary.com\/blog_mary\/2010\/07\/poker-face\/","title":{"rendered":"Poker face!"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>From the Twin-Daddy:<\/h2>\n<div id=\"attachment_1876\" style=\"width: 202px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.puckandmary.com\/blog_mary\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/07\/neanderman_pokerface.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1876\" class=\"size-full wp-image-1876\" title=\"neanderman_pokerface\" src=\"http:\/\/www.puckandmary.com\/blog_mary\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/07\/neanderman_pokerface.jpg\" alt=\"Hunter-Gather Poker Face\" width=\"192\" height=\"187\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-1876\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Hunter-Gatherer makes his Poker Face.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Last Wednesday during our check-up, I nonchalantly told the OB-GYN that we are expecting the boyos in about 4-9 weeks. \u00a0He gave me a bemused look and informed me that 4-6 weeks is probably closer to the mark. \u00a0This is a good time to practice your poker face because the last thing your terribly pregnant wife\u00a0wants\u00a0to see is your\u00a0panicking\u00a0&#8220;HOLY BLAMAZONEE!!&#8221; face.<\/p>\n<p>Thus I responded, &#8220;<em>Sure. \u00a0Sure. \u00a0That&#8217;s no problem and well within our timetable. \u00a0We&#8217;ve got everything on schedule.<\/em>&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>I recommend following this with a reassuring look to the wife as if to say, &#8220;<em>That&#8217;s terribly silly since we&#8217;re\u00a0obviously\u00a0the most prepared people in the history of\u00a0childrearing. \u00a0Quite the nerve he has for even suggesting we might not be ready.<\/em>&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Much later when you are alone run around in circles for ten minutes trying to figure out what you still need to do.<\/p>\n<p>After conferring with my friend Leigh, she gave me a basic list of things babies immediately need.<\/p>\n<h4>Babies Immediately Need<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>A way to get home (Car seats)<\/li>\n<li>Clothes to wear<\/li>\n<li>Diapers<\/li>\n<li>Food to eat (translate that as extra food for the breastfeeding mommy)<\/li>\n<li>A place to sleep<\/li>\n<li>A Baby monitor can come a bit later because you&#8217;re bunking with the babies in your room<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>This list may seem obvious to a rational person, but I&#8217;m an expectant father so I don&#8217;t remotely qualify as rational. \u00a0It is entirely possible that you may find me running down the highway naked with a tofu chicken duct-taped to my head to reduce my drag coefficient. \u00a0(It should be clear to anyone with any scientific background that a tofu chicken has less wind resistance than a normal chicken.)<\/p>\n<p>With this in mind, I like this obvious list and I&#8217;ve used it to create this:<\/p>\n<h4><strong>Get-er-done<\/strong> <strong>checklist<\/strong>:<\/h4>\n<ol>\n<li>Second infant car seat. &#8211; (<strong>Arriving on Thursday<\/strong> and special thanks to Aunt Annie for it).<\/li>\n<li>Install the car seats.<\/li>\n<li>Assemble the double bassinet. (<strong>Done<\/strong> and special thanks to the baby shower crew for that.)<\/li>\n<li>Cell phone so that the husband can be reached anywhere at anytime by the anxious pregnant lady who may have imminent double-babyhood. \u00a0(poker face! poker face!)<\/li>\n<li>Start prepping the hospital bag with clothes, baby stuff, and charged cameras.<\/li>\n<li>Finalize a birthing plan.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>With our friends buying us a large collection of diapers for the baby showers we&#8217;ve got a start on our bouncing boy baby&#8217;s butt needs. \u00a0I have an assembled twin bassinet and a crib ready to go. \u00a0We&#8217;ve got baby clothes and I&#8217;ve been stocking up the fridge with mom food so we are actually looking fairly good at the moment. \u00a0I reserve the right to update this list as needed, but I think we are getting pretty close to being ready.<\/p>\n<p>Best of all, experienced relatives are standing by ready to head our way at the first sound of twin wallerin&#8217;.<\/p>\n<h2>Babies Countdown &#8211; The Double Header<\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"color: #008000;\">58 days until September 2<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"color: #008000;\">27 days until <\/span><span style=\"color: #3366ff;\">10-Pounder Day<\/span><span style=\"color: #008000;\"> (August 2)<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"color: #008000;\">37 days until <\/span><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Median Day<\/span><span style=\"color: #008000;\"> (August 12)<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>This week<\/strong> Puck gets a cell phone.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Sometime in mid-July<\/strong> Mary gets fitted for her nursing bra and takes the super-sucker in for cleaning.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Wednesday, July 14<\/strong> is our next appointment with the OB-GYN.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Thursday, July 15<\/strong> is 32 weeks and <strong><span style=\"color: #ff00ff;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Boob Day<\/span><\/span><\/strong>, which is when the boys could live off breast milk.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Wednesday, July 21<\/strong> is our next (and final) appointment with the Perinators.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Monday, August 2<\/strong> is our wedding anniversary and <strong><span style=\"color: #3366ff;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">10-Pounder Day<\/span><\/span><\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Thursday, August 12<\/strong> and we hit our goal of 36 weeks minimum. This is <strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Median Day<\/span><\/span><\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Thursday, September 2<\/strong> and we reach <span style=\"color: #008000;\"><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">39 weeks<\/span><\/strong><\/span>. The OB-GYN has said she doesn\u2019t want Mary to carry beyond this date.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Thursday, September 9<\/strong> and we hit 40 weeks.
